Carla Vermaatt was born in a village just north of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and spent most of her life in the area.
At a very early age, she insisted she wanted to become an author. Although a lot of people must have smiled about this firm statement, she wrote and published her first book in 1976. Seven more light-hearted novels followed within a short period of time until she lost her appetite for writing after a family tragedy.
Two decades later, a painting holiday in Cornwall inspired her to pick up writing again and she started of with three stand-alone crime novels in Dutch, set in Cornwall and Holland. A new Dutch publisher suggested she'd write books in various genres. There are several stand-alone novels as well as a series of, so far, 5 crime thriller about Dutch policewoman Barbara, who is based in Amsterdam.
Another tragedy in her life inspired her to write the Tregunna police series in the English language. She launched her first English crime thriller TREGUNNA in August 2015. The book was self-published in the UK, printed in Padstow, Cornwall. Making this book available to the Kindle Direct Publishing programme on Amazon, she reached a Top-10 spot in the Kindle store just one year later where it held its position long enough for the 2nd book, WHAT EVERY BODY IS SAYING, to join. COVER THE LIES followed in 2017 and she has just launched her 4th English book, HIDDEN DEPTHS (Tregunna-4).
Recently, her 28th book was published in Dutch in the Netherlands. And she still has ideas for more ...
