Carla Vermaat was born in The Netherlands. A talented painter of mostly landscapes,
she is gifted with a lot of fantasy and imagination. Which comes in handy when she's roaming the Cornish countryside and notices aspects no one else finds. Like, all of a sudden, she can stop and look around while her mind makes extra hours to figure out an idea that has literally jumped on her. These ideas come sort of natural to her, ideas for stories, situations ... murder and deceit, white lies and ugly lies. Because she also writes crime novels: 24 novels and crime thrillers in Dutch, and so far, Detective Inspector Tregunna has appeared in 4 English books. His character turned out to be rather challenging as she opted for a man with an interesting and complicated personal life. 'Tregunna', 'What every body is saying', 'Cover the lies' and 'Hidden depths' are all based in Cornwall.
'What every body is saying' was nominated for Cornwall's prestigious Holyer an Gof Awar in the category Cornish Adult Fiction.
Her ideas have no boundaries though. Last year, she illustrated and published a diary for 2020
which contained many pictures of her paintings depicting the coast of SW England.
So many people enjoyed the Coast-to-Coast 2020 Diary, that she worked hard to create one for 2021 too.
The result? Even better than last year's diary!
